Kirkham are an emerging force in the Daily Mail Schools Trophy and could derail leaders Sedbergh next month.

The Lancastrians have put together an unbeaten run of six games to be among the pack chasing the Cumbrians.

Sedbergh are top thanks to some big wins in this merit-table national competition.

A further good win last Saturday, this time 48-24 over Barnard Castle, cemented Sedbergh’s position.

But Tom Carleton, son of former England wing John, scored three tries as Preston-based Kirkham beat Abingdon 42-14 and it is sure to be a tasty clash when they face Sedbergh on November 14.
