Stowe School retained the U18 Cup title at Tynedale with a commanding display throughout the tournament in Northumberland on 31st August. The Buckinghamshire School added to last years’ U18 Cup and U15 Cup double with some impressive rugby played under the watchful eye of Director of Rugby Alan Hughes.

Played under some un-seasonal North-East sunshine, Stowe were the pick of an excellent crop of entrants as they saw off Yarm School (21-7), Hymers College (19-3) & Newcastle RGS (13-10) before pipping St Pauls School 14-0 in a repeat of the 2013 Final.

Tries from Rotimi Segun & Peter Kimondo and two conversions from Gregor Haldane took the game from St Pauls, whom themselves impressed on the way to the final with wins over Ampleforth College (15-0), Durham School (17-0) and Blundells School (24-0).

Captain John Hawkins took the trophy from Newcastle Falcons head-coach John Wells to cap off a superb day of School Rugby.

St Pauls School didn’t go home empty handed, their 2nd XV ended top of the tree in the U18 Plate with wins over Old Swinford Hospital, Downside School and the impressive Newcastle School for Boys.

Durham School dominated the U15 competition throughout the day, and looked unscathed as they battled through to the final with wins over Ampleforth College (36-0), Tynedale RFC (45-0) and Hill House School (48-0). The final against Stowe School was a tighter affair, with the Durham side winning 19-7 with tries from Dryden, Milbanke & Keanurico.

The provisional date for 2015 is Sunday 30th August. Entrants will be taken at U15 & U18 level. Please see www.tynedaleschoolsfestival.co.uk for more details.
