The Tynedale RFC School Rugby Festival returns for the 14th time on Sunday 1st September in the heart of Northumberland. Over the past three years, the revamped event has attracted some of the most competitive school rugby teams from across England and Scotland and the 2013 event looks the best yet.
Since 2010, the event has grown from one to four competitions including an U18 Cup, Bowl and Plate alongside the U15 Cup. The three-tiered U18 event ensures that all teams enjoy relative and competitive games, while the format of the tournament allows schools to test large squads in good length games in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Each competition is limited to eight teams, split across two pools of four. Teams will play three pool matches of twenty minutes to determine the final pool standings. The teams will then play the corresponding team in the opposite pool in a one-off thirty minute match to determine a straight one-to-eight placing.
In 2013, Merchiston Castle School and Old Swinford Hospital return to content for the Cup title they shared in 2012 while Ermysteds Grammar School will look to retain the trophy that they just beat Yarm School to last September.
There are still limited places available for the tournament in the U18 Cup (1) and U18 Bowl (4). Entry is only £50 per school allowing entry into all four competitions.
