Group A

Hurstpierpoint College swept all before them at the Shiplake 7s racking up 222 points whilst conceding only 48. Only Radley College gave them trouble in the group but when the two met again in the final Hurstpierpoint won comfortably. They had a solid XV-a-side season with 16 wins, a draw and 4 losses. They went toe to toe with the excellent Dulwich side in the Daily Mail cup and only narrowly came off second best. They are the group favourites here. Last year Reed's School made the final 16 of the Nationals, only losing by 2 points to eventual winners Wellington College. They have not enjoyed a great season but play a tough fixture list and will be a big threat. The Oratory School are full of running but will have to be at their best when they play Hurstpierpoint who beat them in the nemi-finals of the cup at Shiplake. Reigate Grammar finished their XV-a-Side season with a big win over Wallington County Grammar and will hope to continue that momentum into the 7s season.

Predicted Group Winners: Hurstpierpoint College

Group B

Pangbourne College will be very competitive and have only three losses on their record this year. They will be looking to build some momentum ahead of the national 7s where they are in a very winnable group. This will be our first look at their 7s squad after the Portsmouth 7s was cancelled due to rain. RGS, Guildford will be looking forward to the 7s season after a tough year at the longer version of the game that has seen them only win one match. St John’s, Leatherhead had a good win over Reed’s this season and will be very competitive here. Wisbech Grammar are a good side and will be battle hardened after a successful tour of Argentina. It will be interesting to see how they far at the short version of the game.

Predicted Group Winners: Pangbourne College
