Olympic rugby sevens hero Dan Bibby will be returning home this season to support Kirkham in the Daily Mail Schools Trophy which starts this weekend.
The Lancashire school are one of the most consistent teams in this national event organised by schoolsrugby.co.uk over the autumn term.
And Bibby, whose inspired play helped win Britain that silver medal in the Rio sevens event, will be returning to his old school in the coming months.
He remembers from his own days how former players, like England scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth, helped out and encouraged the present team.
Bibby, 25, explained: ‘I remember when I was at the school former players came back to help out. England scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth, who now plays for Saracens, often helped out.
‘I’d like to go back and catch up with Aled and to do the same as the other former players. I had a great time at the school and enjoyed my days there. It was the first time I had lived away from home and I have some very special memories.’
Bibby's playmaker role at sevens was nurtured by Aled Trenhaile, Kirkham's head coach. He also encouraged him to continue in sevens when at university in Cardiff.
Trenhaile helped run a sevens team called the North Wales Exiles which paved the way for Bibby to gain a place in the England squad.
