England Under 18 coaches John Fletcher, Peter Walton and Ian Peel have named their side to take on Portugal in the FIRA/AER European Championship on Friday, kick off 6pm (GMT) in Grenoble.

England won the competition in 2012 after beating Georgia, Wales and Ireland in Madrid, and captain Charlie Ewels, who played last year, is expecting another tough test.

He said: “We’ll give Portugal the credit and respect that they deserve, we know that it will be a difficult game, particularly as it’s the first one but we’ve prepared well and I’m confident in the players.

“Being captain is a massive honour and it’ll be amazing to lead the guys out, but the most important thing is our performance and everything else will follow on from that.”
